Most real estate agents would say,” it’s time for you to buy.” But that’s easier said than done, right? Take Midland for example. If you can only afford $1,500/month payments, you have less than 100 properties to choose from, if that. And most might cramp your style.
Protest the Rent Increase. There is no guarantee in life, but you never know until you ask. Rule #1 of Negotiation: Ask. Get that property manager to explain to you, eye to eye, face to face, that the Owner must increase your rent 20-40%. If they expect such out of you, the least they can do is tell it to your face. I’ll bet you a Dollar they will at least call the owner (or say they called) and tried to lower it for you. Of course, being current on your rent, and having a good payment history is key for this to actually work! You do pay your rent on time… right?? Talk to your property manager, that even includes me. I hold myself to the standards that I teach and expect of others. I have even paid a late fee to myself! What can I say, that was a tough weekend! 😉
