Midland is at it again!

Wanted to talk to you about Midland, Texas: Booms and Busts.
Everyone is quick to throw those two words around. I’d like to encourage you not to. And here’s why: Frenzy.

Those silly “speculators,” which is a fancy word for ‘fancy pants yankee Wall Street wanna-be’, are quick to tell ‘everyone’ they know JUST what (enter commodity here) is going to do. Commodities such as oil, gas, corn, silver, gold, etc. The truth of the matter is simply this: the price will go up! and it will go down. It’s a gamble, plain and simple. Like in anything, some will have a better educated guess than others. But it doesn’t change the fact that commodities do this… and that Midland is sitting on a big, fat bunch of it: Oil.

So yes, Midland is getting back to work. The “big boys” are coming back to play again. But remember the 80’s when they left, and “this time for good?” I do.

The difference between then and now is: we’re smarter this time. We have enough veterans from the last several ‘booms’ still here to tell the ‘up and comings’ how to do things, and how NOT to do things. We’re growing, but slowly, steady. People are taking their time and actually breathing around here.

Midland is better prepared. We have more apartments. We have more homes. We have more builders and… we actually have the attention of the Texas Department of Transportation who is finally spending some money on roads around here! We have a lot of infrastructure to put in, and to improve upon. And as those things happen, Midland will expand and grow as we should.

The world has not lost their dependance on oil. But we have found, at lease for the US, we don’t have to run around the globe poking holes everywhere. We have plenty right here, and will for years to come.

So, if you’re coming to Midland… come and settle in for a while. Get comfortable. Take your time. and let’s make you at home. We have a lot of work ahead of us.
